NABS GOBI CHALLENGE |
 |
| |
Nabs has never needed your leadership like at this time before. Stefan Danis and Nabs are challenging all runners to join in on the Nabs Gobi Challenge.
Please sponsor a runner in your company or sponsor Stefan Danis to help Nabs raise funds for its rising caseload and additional retraining requirements in light of the economy. The government is bailing out many sectors, but not this one!
The Gobi desert borders both Mongolia and China. The race is an unaided 250km race over 7 days. Athletes from carry all their equipment for the week on their backs (approx. 20-30 lbs); food, clothes, mat, sleeping bag, gear, etc. A camp site is set up that racers must get to for the night; and hydration stations are set up every 10K. The race is in the desert and climbs to 10,000 feet. Temperatures frequently exceed 40 Celsius. The race starts at 9am every morning. There is a marathon long race in each of the first 4 days, a double-marathon on the 5th day, and a 20K on the last day.
Race start June 14 in Northwestern China in a prefecture closed to tourism. For many, the Gobi is one of the most beautiful locations on earth.
Training for this event is complex and involved. Ultimately, one needs to run at least 70-80 miles a week. Preparation must include core and flexibility training, high heat training, running with weights, night running, ultra marathon running, self medicating feet, learning to hydrate and eat certain foods with little weight.
